I really don't know Boeing's specific avionic behavior - I am a proud Airbus fan - so I don't want to say anything that I am unsure about. As a general guideline if the circumstance You originally described would appear to me, I would proceed as I described.
I am flying Airbus as airliner, which as You know is different in "thinking logic" than Boeing, and unfortunately I don't know any of our colleagues that fly 737NG yet (besides You of course), so more than what I wrote I am unable to help about this matter.
Would be nice to read how other our 737NG colleagues would do in the circumstance You described. For sure everyone could learn something even if we operate different machines - I am inviting other 737NG pilots to contribute.
